When there is fear, growing unemployment, anger, and a resentment growing inside society, then Crime and violence increase, one reason why Authoritarian Governments, and Leaders are elected in times of crisis. This means as growing numbers join the ranks of the official unemployed, anger starts to ferment if these people are impoverished, because they may feel the old pre-crisis system badly let them down. This is already happening to Bankers, who are currently low in the public popularity stakes.
If the crisis gets worse, and a connection is made between Governments, and the shamed Banking Industry creating this crisis. Then we could see a rise in violent demonstrations, strikes and even attacks on the people blamed for the crisis. This simply could mean that many Governments will hire more Police, and security personnel, if the situation becomes worse.
Thus creating employment, whilst ensuring more protection, against potentially violent mobs. Good news for anyone entering the security field.
Crime could naturally increase, whether its by gangs of bored, unemployed youths or professional criminals. So private companies, may invest more to protect their properties. If the Bank bailouts fail, banks could be the next target for unhappy demonstrators.
Most Governments are aware of this, as history as taught us in modern crisis, crime and violence does rise. The aftermath of the levies breaching in New Orleans in 2005, created a dangerous City, that only was controlled when the Military drove into the city. In France, Greece, Germany, Sweden, and the UK, street violence and riots now flare up in places. Countries considered to be "safe", when in fact they had a history of civil discontent. And as the crisis grows, then the fear of riots grows in these Countries.
The growth of personal security products, will ensure that wary people find the money to invest in protecting themselves. This means security stores, should see an increase in business, when other businesses consider closing down, opportunities for savvy investors in this new economy.
One thing many people agree on, is that we do not want a return to Authoritarian Governments, but the millions who are now joining the official unemployment queues around the globe, may see their next best job opportunity in the Police Force or the Security Industry.
